Hands on Workshop with Mycelium Materials - 15th February 2026 - Devon
Curious about growing materials instead of manufacturing them? Join us for a hands-on, small-group workshop where you’ll learn how to cast with mycelium (the root-like network of fungi) and leave with your own freshly made, living sculpture to take home and finish.
With only 7 places per session, this is an intimate, practical session with plenty of time for questions, demos, and guidance.
Location
Held at our studio next to Plants Galore, Newton Abbot, Devon. (Full directions provided after booking.)
What you’ll do
In this 2-hour session you’ll:
•Learn the core principles of mycelium as a material and how it behaves during growth and drying
•Get a step-by-step walkthrough of casting your own mycelium composite
•Cover maintenance and handling: incubation basics, demoulding, and drying for a strong final result
•Tour our lab spaces and get a run-through of the core equipment used in mycelium making
•Cast your own piece during the workshop to take home
What you’ll take home
You’ll leave with a newly cast, living mycelium sculpture. You’ll then:
1.incubate it at home,
2.demould it once grown,
3.dry it to stop growth and lock in the final form.
(You’ll be guided on the full at-home process so you feel confident finishing it.)
What to bring
You don’t need to bring anything — all materials are provided.
If you’d like to cast into a specific mould or form, you’re welcome to bring one along. Please email me in advance if you plan to bring a mould, so I can confirm suitability and size.
Who it’s for
Perfect for beginners and the curious — makers, artists, designers, material nerds, and anyone interested in sustainable fabrication. No prior experience needed.
